Homemade Valentine’s Day Dog Treats

A sweet DIY for the pup who has your whole heart 🤍

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about roses and chocolate — it’s about celebrating love in all its forms. And if you’re anything like me, one of the biggest loves of your life has four legs, a wagging tail, and zero concept of personal space.

So this year, instead of store-bought treats, I decided to make something a little more special: homemade Valentine’s Day dog treats, made with simple, dog-safe ingredients and a whole lot of love.

Because let’s be honest — our dogs deserve it.

Why Make Homemade Treats for Your Dog?

There’s something so comforting about making treats at home. You know exactly what’s going into them, you can adjust based on your dog’s needs, and it turns an ordinary afternoon into a little moment of bonding.

Homemade dog treats are:

  • A great way to avoid unnecessary fillers and additives

  • Easy to customize for allergies or sensitivities

  • Perfect for special occasions like Valentine’s Day

  • A fun activity you can feel good about

Plus, watching your dog wait (not-so-patiently) while you bake? Worth it every time.

Simple, Dog-Safe Ingredients

You don’t need anything fancy for these treats. In fact, you probably already have most of these at home.

Some dog-friendly ingredients you can use:

  • 1 cup Oat flour

  • 1/4 tbsp Natural peanut butter (make sure it’s xylitol-free)

  • One Banana (or substitute) pumpkin purée

  • One egg

  • 1/4 tsp baking soda

For the Valentine’s touch:

  • Heart-shaped cookie cutters

  • yogurt and raspberry based frosting. 1/4 cup greek yogurt, 1 tbsp frozen raspberries

Always remember: every dog is different, so adjust ingredients based on what your pup tolerates best.

How to Make Valentine’s Dog Treats

This recipe is simple, forgiving, and perfect even if you’re not a big baker.

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°C and line a baking dish

  2. Mix 1 cup Flour, 1 banana, 1 egg, 1/4 tsp Baking soda, 1 tbsp Peanut butter together

  3. Place dough in baking dish and pop in the oven for 20-25 minutes

  4. Place treats on the cooling rack and let them cool completely

  5. Frosting: Combine greek yogurt and frozen raspberries in blender

  6. Add a light frosting or leave them plain — both work great

Pro tip: If your treats are a little imperfect, that just makes them better. Dogs don’t care about aesthetics — they care about love (and snacks).

Valentine’s Day Is About the Little Things

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be extravagant. Sometimes it’s homemade treats, a cozy afternoon, and celebrating the unconditional love our dogs give us every single day.

Because at the end of the day, they show up for us — no matter what.

And if that’s not worth celebrating, I don’t know what is.

Final Tips

  • Store treats in an airtight container

  • Refrigerate or freeze extras for later

  • Always supervise your dog when introducing new treats

  • Enjoy the process — they feel your energy
